Now, maybe I’m biased because I happen to have shot two weddings at The Alverbank last autumn, but really, a Victorian house, with sea views and beautiful gardens? It’s calls for autumn vibes to me. And clearly it did for Megan & Arthur and Danni & Nick as well.
While Megan & Arthur and Danni & Nick planned two completely different days, they shared something far more important than a colour palette or style. Both weddings were filled with genuine laughter, happy tears and the kind of moments that can’t be planned, the moments that remind you what a wedding day is really all about.

The Morning
For Megan and Arthur, their autumn-inspired stationery, with its warm floral illustrations, vintage details and wax seals, immediately set the tone for the day ahead. Megan actually made these details herself. (How insanely magical is that?) Every little detail felt intentional, reflecting their personalities before either of them had even stepped into their wedding outfits.
Upstairs, the bridal suite was anything but quiet. A flower girl proudly modelled her flower crown with the confidence only a child can have, turning the room into fits of laughter before disappearing off on her next adventure. Friends and family shared jokes, helped with the final touches and paused every so often to take in the significance of the day.
Meanwhile, downstairs, Arthur’s morning had its own wonderfully relaxed energy. Ties were straightened, smiles were shared and, despite the excitement, there was an unmistakable sense of calm. One of my favourite moments was watching Arthur laugh as his best person (or one of) adjusted his tie, a simple moment that perfectly captured their friendship.
One detail that instantly made me smile was the pair of white Dr Martens, each decorated with tiny D20 dice charms. It was such a subtle nod to the couple’s love of tabletop gaming and a reminder that weddings don’t have to follow tradition to feel meaningful. Those little personal touches are often what make a wedding unforgettable.
Yet on another Autumn day, a different story was told.
The bridal suite at The Alverbank was buzzing with excitement as bridesmaids shared stories over glasses of fizz, laughing until tears rolled down their faces one moment, before becoming emotional the next as Danni stepped into her dress. Those are the moments I love most; the ones that can’t be planned and happen naturally when the people around you are simply so happy to be there.
One by one, the reactions unfolded, with a proud family trying to hold back happy tears. Bridesmaids seeing Danni ready for the first time, their faces lighting up with excitement. Even the quiet moments, gathered around the beautiful bay window overlooking the gardens.
This morning felt extra special to me because I’d done this with these ladies before. I was the photographer when one of Danni’s bridesmaids got married the year before. It was like returning to old friends. We hadn’t seen each other for a while, but I was one of the girls again.
A Celebrant Wedding Full of Laughter, Love & Princess Bride References
One of my favourite things about a celebrant wedding is that no two ceremonies are ever the same, and Megan and Arthur’s was the perfect example of that.
Led by my wonderful friend, Miranda the Celebrant, their ceremony was completely personal from start to finish. There were heartfelt stories, plenty of laughter and even a few unexpected moments, including a game of rock, paper, scissors to decide who would read their vows first. It had everyone smiling before either of them had even spoken.
Their handfasting ceremony was another beautiful highlight. Surrounded by the people who love them most, family members helped bind their hands together, creating a symbolic moment that felt every bit as meaningful as it was beautiful to witness.
And because these two are unapologetically themselves, there were plenty of references to The Princess Bride woven throughout the ceremony too. It was romantic, funny and wonderfully geeky in all the best ways, making every guest feel like they were part of something truly personal rather than simply watching a wedding.
There were tears, of course. Arthur couldn’t hold them back, and neither could a fair few of their guests. But above everything else, this ceremony was filled with joy. The kind of joy that comes from celebrating exactly who you are, surrounded by the people who know you best.
An Outdoor Ceremony with Sea Views and Plenty of Smiles
With the autumn sunshine pouring across the gardens, Danni and Nick couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful setting to say “I do.” The outdoor ceremony at The Alverbank House Hotel made the most of everything this venue has to offer, with breathtaking sea views, a floral arch framing the moment perfectly, and all of their favourite people gathered around them.
While a registrar-led ceremony is naturally a little shorter than a celebrant wedding, that certainly didn’t make it any less personal. There were plenty of laughs as the ceremony unfolded, a few emotional glances between the two of them, and smiles that never seemed to leave their faces. Nick’s excitement was written all over him from the moment he saw Danni walk down the aisle, and their first kiss as newlyweds was met with huge applause from every guest.
One of my favourite moments came just after the ceremony, as they made their way back down the aisle. Rather than rushing off, they paused to soak it all in, laughing together as family and friends cheered around them. Those little moments of pure joy are often the ones couples remember most.
The Celebration (or, as I like to call it… The Chaos)
This is the part of the wedding day where everyone stopped trying to be sensible.
The formalities were over, the hugs had been had, and it was time to celebrate. Family portraits quickly turned into family chaos (exactly as they should), with plenty of questionable poses, inside jokes and the kind of photos that will only get funnier as the years go by.
One of my favourite things about Megan and Arthur was how completely themselves they were all day. There wasn’t a single moment that felt staged or forced. They laughed through everything, from cutting their cake with a sword (because obviously that’s the only acceptable way to do it) to belting out songs with their friends later in the evening.
From the moment everyone settled into party mode, it was absolute chaos in the very best way. Friends carried each other around the dance floor, the bridal party fully committed to every ridiculous photo idea I threw at them, and somehow there was always another bottle, another song and another reason for everyone to cheer.
One minute we were creating beautiful golden-hour portraits in the gardens. The next, Nick was leading the charge on tequila shots while Danni laughed from the sidelines, wondering what she’d signed up for. (Spoiler: she loved every second.)
I always say the best weddings are the ones where people feel completely comfortable being themselves. Nobody worried about looking cool. Nobody held back. They simply celebrated the people they loved. Because long after the flowers have faded and the decorations have been packed away, those wonderfully chaotic moments are the ones you’ll remember most.
Golden Hour

The golden light filtering through the trees wrapped everything in this warm amber glow, and they barely needed any direction. They simply settled into each other. Between the towering trees, the dappled light and those peaceful moments where the rest of the wedding disappeared, it felt like we’d stepped into their own little world. They’re some of my favourite kinds of portraits because they never feel posed, they just feel like two people taking a breath together.
Danni & Nick gave us something completely different. As the evening drew in, we wandered down onto the beach for sunset. The Solent was calm, the sky slowly turning from gold to soft pinks and blues, and it gave us the perfect backdrop for portraits that felt both romantic and full of personality. There were the classic moments, a quiet kiss, a gentle dance, watching the sun disappear over the water, but equally there was plenty of laughter. Nick couldn’t resist dipping Danni, spinning her around and making her laugh until she could barely stand. Those are always my favourite moments because they’re completely theirs.
